Every Canadian winter brings challenges for seniors. Our volunteers show up — shovel in hand — to ensure elderly community members can safely navigate their homes, access medical care, and stay connected.
Volunteers clear driveways, front walks, and access paths — making sure seniors can safely leave their home after a snowfall.
Registered seniors receive consistent service throughout the winter season, not just after major storms.
Falls on icy walkways are a leading cause of injury in seniors. Our program directly prevents hospitalizations and promotes independence.
My TCHF is our free community app. One account lets seniors and their families request help at home, and lets volunteers clear driveways, walkways and front steps after a snowfall. It works in any browser on your phone, tablet or computer.
For seniors 65+ and the family and friends who look after them. You need an email address and the address of the home.
Create your free account
Sign up with your email or Google, then choose Get Help.
Add the home
Your own home, or a parent's or friend's as Family & friends. Several family members can share one home.
TCHF approves the home
A coordinator confirms we serve the area and emails you when it is approved.
Request help
Say what needs clearing and how soon. Photos are optional.
A verified volunteer comes
You get an arrival time by email and in the app, then see before and after photos and rate the visit.
For adults and high-school students. Get verified once, then help neighbours near you on your own schedule.
Create your account
Sign up, then choose Volunteer.
Verify your identity
A quick ID photo and selfie through Stripe Identity. TCHF never stores your ID images.
Police record check
Adults need a Vulnerable Sector Check. The app writes the confirmation letter for your police service.
Sign the volunteer agreement
E-sign it in the app. A parent or guardian co-signs for volunteers under 18.
Start a shift, log your hours
Pick up jobs near you and download a signed Hours Letter for school community hours.
Season
Runs November to April. Out of season, the app shows when the program opens again.
Equipment
The household provides a shovel (and salt, if you have some). Volunteers bring their time.
Verified volunteers
Adults pass an ID check and a Vulnerable Sector Check before visiting any home.
Privacy first
You see an arrival time, never a volunteer's location. Photo location data is removed.
